Group Rides for Women - Why we think you should join one now!

At Trail Bloom, we are all about getting more women on bikes, so when I saw a local bike group Grit Grrrls was doing a ladies ride at the weekend, we jumped at the chance to go with them and meet some biking loving ladies!  What could be a better way to spend a morning in sunny(ish) April than on your bike?!

I arrived separately from Rachel, to find a group of 5 other women, chatting away like fond friends.  The atmosphere was super chilled, and I felt at home with these ladies instantly.  Riding with women is always fun, and relaxed in a way you don't tend to find when riding with a mixed group.  There was no competition, no fear of being left behind, or not being fast enough. I loved the variety of riders and bikes, some riding gravel bikes, and some on mountain bikes, I took my trusty Liv Tempt hard tail, which was perfect for this relaxed ride with my new friends.

We took a lovely route mainly along the canal, chatting away about our week, jobs and the scenery.  Funny, how you can chat so easily on a ride like this, it was lovely to take a relaxed approach and enjoy the morning.  Of course there was a coffee stop, which on this occasion included breakfast... the pancakes were amazing!  I can highly recommend Trent Lock Pub for excellent breakfasts!

We took an alternative route back, passing walkers and other cyclists on our way while chatting some more before heading back to the carpark, before heading our separate ways.  We were out for 2 hours, but felt more like 5 minutes!  I have no idea on the route, I simply followed Sian and the other ladies around the canal and enjoyed my ride.

There's so much more to gain from attending ladies rides, new friends, health and fitness, good chat & typically cake.  But also, confidence building, amazing mental health benefits and strength building. We chatted about our lives, and any biking stumbling blocks we were having, the best therapy, and cheaper!

On the ride, I wore my padded chamois shorts, baggies & Swift large floral MTB jersey & a rain coat (it is April in England!), which were all perfect for the ride.  Rachel wore her Breeze jersey & chamois shorts, she rode in 10 miles before we met up, and loves her chamois shorts for longer road / gravel rides.

All in all a fantastic morning spent on 2 wheels with the Grit Grrrls.  If you're local to Nottingham, give them a follow on Instagram, they have different types of rides for all abilities, and are super welcoming.  A great way to meet new people and get on your bike.

Happy Peddling,

Emily
