Ladies Day - Bike Park Edition - Why they are amazing!

Bike Park Wales Ladies Day

If you’ve never been to a bike park, why not pop your cherry with a ladies day?

Even if you have already hit the trails on some down hill bike parks, a ladies day can really elevate your riding experience.  What can be better than riding along side your gal pals, without any pressure from the opposite sex? Session that tabletop, whiz around some berms or simply enjoy the ride with your fellow females.  In this blog post I explain why I think they are great for all women!

Both Rach and I have been to 1 ladies’ day, but we have plenty booked for summer! We have been to Bike Park Wales a couple of times on ‘normal’ days, but the camaraderie on ladies’ day was epic.  There were 200 women, all there to ride and have a great time.  Encourage each other.  Pushing personal boundaries seemed easier because you felt like everyone was cheering you on, rather than watching and waiting for you to fail.  (side note, I’m sure not all guys watching while you do a section are wishing you to fail, but it sure does feel like it sometimes, right?! Imposter syndrome can be strong on the trails!!) One of the best feelings on the day was following a group of similar age and skill set women down a new trail, and all being stoked at the bottom of this particularly speedy section, cheering each other on and handing out high fives like no tomorrow! It was amazing, the rush we all got from it and being excited for each other was just inspiring.  I don’t know the last time I did that when riding with my husband, that’s for sure!

It was great to meet like minded women, we even made a few new friends who we have met since at Forest of Dean.  It’s unbelievable how much you have in common with someone who you just met at a mountain biking ladies’ day.  We all shared experiences of our favourite places to ride, which trails we wanted to try again, and which women’s mountain bike gear we all rated.  From best shorts for women who MTB, baggies and the padded chamois shorts we all loved, to someone asking where your top is from because they love it! (I’m sure you’ve guessed that it was a Trail Bloom top, and yes, I did a little happy dance when she had gone out of shot!)

Ladies days are also a great opportunity to do some coaching, there is usually some sort of ladies only coaching for all abilities.  Or you can book your own and have some coaching to help in specific skills you want to improve on.
